While You Wait

Grounding Through Sensation

  • Settle your posture
Sit or stand in a comfortable position. Allow your feet to make full contact with the floor or ground. Let your hands rest where they feel most natural.

  • Orient to the room
Slowly turn your head and gently look around the space you are in. Notice shapes, colors, and light. Name a few neutral or pleasant details you can see. This helps signal safety to the nervous system.

  • Connect with physical contact
Bring your attention to where your body is supported. Notice the see of the chair, the floor under your feet, or your back against a surface. You do not need to change anything. Just notice.

  • Track sensation
Scan your body and identify one area that feels neutral or steady. This could be your feet, your hands, or your breath moving in your chest or abdomen. Rest your attention there for several breaths.

  • Slow the breath slightly
Without forcing the breath, allow the exhale to be a little longer than the inhale. This can help shift the nervous system toward regulation.

  • Check in
Ask yourself quietly, “What do I notice now?” This might be a change in tension, warmth, calm, or simply awareness. There is no right answer.

  • Return
When ready, gently bring your attention back to the room and continue with your day
